Overview

What Makes Orangeville Different.

If you're choosing a town in Dufferin County, Orangeville is usually the first one people consider — and for good reason. It punches well above its weight.

Orangeville is the largest town in Dufferin County, with a downtown core that's been carefully preserved and a community that's deeply invested in keeping it that way. You'll find a Tony Award-winning theatre, an independent bookstore that's been a local fixture for decades, and a Saturday farmers' market that draws people from across the county.

But it's not a museum town. The population has been steadily growing — driven by GTA families who've made the move for more space and slower mornings, and by long-time residents whose kids are choosing to stay or come back. That mix gives Orangeville something rare: a small-town feel that doesn't feel stuck in time.

If you're moving here from Brampton, Mississauga, or Toronto, the things you'll notice first are the easy ones — less traffic, more trees, a downtown you can actually walk. What takes longer to appreciate is the community fabric: the way people know their neighbours, support local businesses, and show up for each other. That's the real reason people stay.

Commute & Connectivity

Getting To & From Orangeville.

For GTA-bound commuters, Orangeville is realistic — but it requires the right strategy.

The main route to the GTA is Highway 10 South, which connects to Highway 410 and the 401. In off-peak conditions, downtown Toronto is 75 minutes. In rush hour, expect 90–120 minutes depending on conditions.

Most Orangeville commuters who work downtown either drive to Brampton GO and take the train, or work hybrid schedules with 2–3 office days a week. Full-time downtown commuting is doable but demanding.

For Brampton or Mississauga workplaces, the commute is much more reasonable — typically 45–55 minutes. Vaughan and York Region are within range via the Highway 9 / 400 connection.

One thing to know: there's no GO Train station in Orangeville. The closest is Brampton (about 35 minutes south).

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions.

Is Orangeville a good place to raise a family?
Yes — it's one of the main reasons families move here. Strong schools across both public and Catholic boards, safe neighbourhoods, abundant kids' programs and youth sports, real community connections, and easy access to outdoor recreation. The trade-off is the commute to GTA jobs if both parents work downtown.
How much do homes in Orangeville cost?
As of Spring 2026, the average sale price in Orangeville is approximately $845,000, with detached homes averaging $925,000. Entry-level homes (townhouses, smaller detached) start around $625,000. Larger executive and estate homes range from $1.2M to $2M+. Prices vary significantly by neighbourhood and property age.
What's the commute to Toronto like?
In off-peak conditions, downtown Toronto is about 75 minutes via Highway 10 and the 410/401. In peak rush hour, expect 90–120 minutes. There's no GO Train station in Orangeville — most train commuters drive to Brampton GO (35 minutes south). Hybrid work arrangements are common among Orangeville's professional residents.
What are the best neighbourhoods in Orangeville?
It really depends on what you're looking for. Older, established neighbourhoods around First Street and Broadway offer character homes and walkability. North-end developments offer newer builds and family-oriented streets. The areas around Princess Margaret and Credit Meadows schools are perennially in demand. I'm happy to walk you through specific neighbourhoods on a call.
Is the Orangeville market a good investment?
Long-term, yes. Orangeville has shown consistent appreciation over the past decade, driven by GTA buyer demand, limited new build inventory, and growing employment in the surrounding region. As with any market, timing and property selection matter — but the fundamentals are strong.
How does Orangeville compare to Shelburne or Grand Valley?
Orangeville is the larger, more established town with more amenities, stronger arts/culture, and the regional hospital — but at a higher price point. Shelburne is more affordable and growing faster, ideal for first-time buyers prioritizing budget. Grand Valley is smaller, more rural, and still offers value but with fewer in-town amenities. Mono and Mulmur are for those wanting acreage and rural lifestyle.
